Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman said that he believes Apple will unveil its long-anticipated 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro with touch-enabled OLED displays somtime in October or November of this year.
Gurmans comments came today on his first-ever Power On podcast.
“Apple, I believe, will introduce its first touchscreen MacBook Pro this fall, as early as October,” he said. “It could slip to November, but as early as October.”
Gurman added that Apple is currently testing the laptops with a beta version of macOS 27.2. That software update for the recently released macOS 27 Golden Gate Mac operating system is expected to be released towards the end of October, meaning the touch-screen MacBook Pro models might be announced in that timeframe.
In addition to an OLED touch screen, other rumors about the new MacBook Pro models include using Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, a thinner design, and a Dynamic Island in place of the current screen notch.
A few years ago, Gurman said Apple was considering the release of cellular-equipped Macs that could connect directly to a 5G or LTE network, eliminating the need to use an iPhone’s hotspot. This has led to hope that the new MacBook Pro will be equipped with APple own in-house developed C1X or C2 modem.
It is unclear if the touch-screen models will still wear the MacBook Pro brand, or if Apple will use another naming convention, like “MacBook Ultra.”
