October marks the 5th anniversary of the release of Apple’s microfiber Polishing Cloth accessory. The cloth, developed by Apple to allow device users to properly clean the screens of their prized devices, and released in October 2021, originally sold for $19, although a redesigned, softer version now sells for $9.
Apple promotes the cloth as the perfect way to clean your Apple devices, including your iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch :
Made with soft, nonabrasive material, the Polishing Cloth cleans any Apple display, including nano-texture, safely and effectively.
Made from a “soft, nonabrasive material,” the Polishing Cloth can be used to clean any Apple display, including nano-texture glass, safely and effectively.
While you’d think most Apple users would have a microfiber cloth handy already (I have 2 cloths within view as I write this), the official Apple Polishing Cloth proved immediately popular when it was released. Delivery dates soon slipped to late December/early January. The cloth was available exclusively from the online store, and it was not available in Apple’s retail locations or from third-party companies.
