Microsoft’s ‘Insert Data From Picture’ Excel Feature Debuts on iOS Devices

Microsoft’s ‘Insert Data From Picture’ Excel Feature Debuts on iOS Devices

Apple on Wednesday announced that the iOS version of Excel is gaining the “Insert Data from Picture” feature already available on the Android version of the spreadsheet app.

Insert Data from Picture allows users to take a photo of data printed in a table format and automatically convert the information to an Excel compatible data format. Nearly any type of information can be captured, as long as it’s already in a table format.

The Insert Data from Picture feature works by combining advanced optical character recognition (OCR) technology, layout understanding techniques, and machine learning models to transform paper-based information into digital data. We’ve used these and other technologies across Office apps, including the PDF Reflow feature for Word and Office Lens and in the Seeing AI app.

Microsoft says the new feature combines optical character recognition technology, layout understanding techniques, and machine learning to convert information written on paper into digital data.

The Insert Data from Picture feature supports 21 languages on both iOS and Android devices.

The Excel app for iPhone and iPad is free to download and is available from the App Store. [GET IT HERE]
