During the WWDC 2020 Keynote, Apple announced Macs powered by its own Apple Silicon chips in place of Intel processors. Apple today confirmed that the new Mac lineup will continue to offer Thunderbolt support.
In a statement to The Verge, an Apple spokesperson said that Apple’s upcoming Macs will continue to offer support for the Intel Thunderbolt USB-C standard:
“Over a decade ago, Apple partnered with Intel to design and develop Thunderbolt, and today our customers enjoy the speed and flexibility it brings to every Mac. We remain committed to the future of Thunderbolt and will support it in Macs with Apple silicon.”
Apple announced at WWDC 2020 in June its plans to begin equipping its Mac lineup with its one ARM-based Apple Silicon chips. The first Apple Silicon-powered Mac is set to debut before the end of 2020. Apple plans to transition its entire Mac lineup to Apple Silicon over the next two years.
