The battery capacity of Apple’s rumored iPhone 17 Air will be below the 3,000 mAh mark, claims a recent post from Instant Digital on Chinese social media platform Weibo. However, the account says the iPhone 17 Air should be able to make it all day, thanks to iOS 26’s new Adaptive Power Mode.
Select models of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models were the last to have battery capacities at or below the 3,000 mAh mark.
Instant Digital has a reasonably good track record when it comes to Apple leaks, making the right call on the Apple Watch Ultra 2’s Titanium Milanese Loop and the Yellow finish for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus.
Apple’s internal testing is said to have determined that the percentage of iPhone 17 Air users that will be able to make it through a full day without hitting the charger for a fillup will be between 60% and 70% (compared to 80% and 90% for other iPhone models), according to a previous report by The Information’s Wayne Ma, who also reported that the iPhone 17 Air would have “worse” battery life compared to previous iPhone models, thanks to the device’s much-rumored ultra-thin 5.5mm design, which would limit the internal space for a battery.
The report also said that Apple is planning to release a battery case as an optional accessory for the iPhone 17 Air to help with the lowered battery life.
