The iPhone’s Camera Control button could disappear from the iPhone 18 lineup, as not enough iPhone owners are using it, claims an iffy rumor out of China.
A Tuesday post from a Weibo-based account called “OvO OvO OvO OvO” claimed that Apple has told its suppliers that it won’t be ordering the component in the future, citing low usage among users and a desire to cut costs.
It should be pointed out that the leaker behind the post has not proven track record and is known mostly for repeating rumors from other sources. The leaker also did not provide a source for this rumors, so this rumor should be taken with a grain of your favorite sodium-free seasoning.
That said, user opinion on the Camera Control button has been split, with some users appreciating the button’s tactile control for some camera features, while other say they barely use it, due to finding it redundant alongside the Camera app’s on-screen controls.
It’s possible that Apple could remove the button, or make it customizable, like the Action button, which debuted alongside the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro.
