Apple Celebrates National Parks With Apple Pay-Related Donations, Apple Watch, and More

Once again, Apple is donating $10 to the National Park Foundation for every purchase made in the U.S. using Apple Pay on Apple.com, in the Apple Store app, or at an Apple Store, now through Friday, August 29, up to a maximum of $1 million.

Apple has made these annual donations to the National Park Foundation since 2017.

The non-profit organization “generates private support and builds strategic partnerships to protect and enhance America’s national parks for present and future generations.”

In addition to the donations, Apple also celebrates U.S. national parks every August with Apple Watch Activity Challenges and special content across the App Store, Apple Maps, Apple Fitness+, and Apple Podcasts.

Apple’s National Parks Apple Watch activity challenge will be held on Sunday, August 24. Apple Watch owners can earn an Apple Watch activity award by performing a workout that lasts for 20 minutes or more on that day. Earning the award will also provide users with animated stickers that can be used in the Messages app.

Apple Maps also offers a Discover America’s National Parks guide for hikes, Apple Fitness+ is offering a selection of Time to Run episodes inspired by national parks, and Apple Podcasts is featuring “The Wild with Chris Morgan” episodes spotlighting various national parks.

The National Park Service app has also been named as App of the Day in the App Store.

Apple CEO Tim Cook in 2022, said the parks provide a “sense of awe, tranquility, and quiet reverence only nature can inspire,” and he emphasized that they are “well worth protecting, today and for every generation to come.”

The National Park Service celebrates its birthday on August 25.
