While Apple initially didn’t have any plans to turn Siri into a full-blown chatbot like Google’s Gemini or OpenAI’s ChatGPT, a new Bloomberg report indicates the popularity of said chatbots may have changed Apple executives’ minds.
The Siri chatbot will debut in iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27, and will replace the current version of Siri. User will be able to conduct a natural language conversation with Siri, just like in current chatbots like ChatGPT, and the chatbot will still be accessible by using the traditional “Siri” wake word or by holding down the side button on an iPhone or iPad.
While Apple is currently testing the Siri chatbot as a separate app, it won’t be offered to the public in an app form. It will instead be built-in to Apple devices. It will be powered by a customer model based on Google Gemini.
The new chatbot will be able to perform web searches, generate images and other content, help developers with coding, anlayze uploaded files, and more. It will use the personal data stored on a user’s device to complete tasks, and will offer a greatly improved search feature.
Apple is also work to allow the Siri chatbot to view on-screen content, while also having the ability to adjust features and settings on a device.
The chatbot will be integrated into Apple’s app, such as Mail, Music, Message, Photos, TV, and more. It will have access to content in apps to respond to queries. Users will be able to type in queries or use voice.
While Claude and ChatGPT are able to use information from past conversations to personalize responses, Apple is considering limiting Siri’s memory to protect user privacy.
The Siri chatbot is not the more personalized version of Siri that we will see rollout in iOS 26.4, but will instead be a more powerful chatbot version of Siri that will rollout in iOS 27.
Apple plans to unveil the Siri chatbot feature at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June.
