OS 27 ‘Rave’ Update to be a ‘Clean Up’ Release, Could Extend iPhone Battery Life

OS 27 ‘Rave’ Update to be a ‘Clean Up’ Release, Could Extend iPhone Battery Life

Apple’s upcoming iOS 27 update fill be focused on cleaning up the iPhone operating system’s internals, focusing on changes to improve performance, possibly resulting in better life, says Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman.

Gurman‘s comments came in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter. Gurman says the focus should result in a “snappier, more responsive” OS. He says that while Apple is also planning some tweaks to the iOS interface, it won’t involve the dramatic changes seen with iOS 26’s Liquid Glass remodel.

There is a precedent for a “maintenance update” of an Apple operating system, as years ago, the company released its Snow Leopard OS update for the Mac, which involved the removal of old code, refining existing features, and making subtle upgrades to apps.

Gurman says iOS 27, known internally at Apple by the codename “Rave,” will include updates to improve efficiency, which hopefully would translate to noticeable battery life improvements for iPhone users

Gurman says Apple wants to ensure that  the iPhone software will be in good shape, as Apple is preparing new devices for a second half 2026 release, including the first foldable iPhone and a touchscreen MacBook Pro.
