A leaked image shows a new Apple TV 4k unit, indicating we’ll soon see a new version of the popular set-top streaming box. The image, which shows an Apple TV 4k with an unchanged exterior, is specifically for an “Apple TV 4K (4th generation)” model.
While the image, which was discovered by MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris, shows the same external design as the current Apple TV 4k model, all of its internal components are expected to be updated in one way or another. The current Apple TV model–which is equipped with an A15 Bionic chip and 4GB of RAM–debuted in October 2022, meaning it is nearly four years old, making it overdue for an upgrade.
In July, we reported that a new model of the Apple TV was nearly ready to launch, and a fall release is planned. The new device will be equipped with a faster processor that supports Siri AI.
We also reported thar the new Apple TV will share a similar design to today’s model. The new Apple TV will likely be equipped with an A17 Pro chip or newer. The A17 Pro is the oldest chip that offers Apple Intelligence support. Other internal improvements are expected to include Apple’s N1 chip for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. A revised Siri Remote is also rumored.
The image reveals that the Apple TV will have the same external design as the current model, with all of its upgrades expected to be internal. Rumored features include an A17 Pro chip or newer, an increased 8GB of RAM, Apple Intelligence and Siri AI support, an Apple-designed N1 chip with Wi-Fi 7 support, and a revised Siri Remote.
Apple raised prices on the Apple TV 4K back in June. In the US, the Wi-Fi model with 64GB of storage now starts at $199 (up from $129), while the Wi-Fi + Ethernet model with 128GB of storage now starts at $249 (up from $149). We won’t know for if the next Apple TV will maintain those prices or be even more expensive until the new device debuts, which could be shortly, as October is a common month for new Apple product announcements.
