iPhone Duo Facing Production Problems, Claims New Report

Early output of the iPhone Duo is reportedly expected to be limited, thanks to production difficulties, ahead of its October launch, claims China‘s Jiemian News.

A source claiming to have knowledge of Foxconn’s supply chain told the publication that final assembly yields for Apple’s first foldable iPhone were only slightly above 60% as of September 17. The source said that it could take another six months to a year for the assembly line to reach a mature yield.

The source says Foxconn is repeatedly adjusting equipment, assembly processes, and production settings. The source also said suppliers were waiting to see whether Apple would ease any quality requirements to accelerate production.

Samsung Display’s foldable OLED panels and hinge components have also experienced low yields, leading to delayed deliveries, and design changes.

A supply chain source also told Jiemian News that Apple’s global stocking target for the ‌iPhone Duo‌ in 2026 is approximately six million to eight million units. That’s compared to typical iPhone Pro and iPhone Pro Max shipments of 20 million to 30 million units over a full product cycle.

In a related report, MyDrivers claims that one iPhone Duo contract manufacturer asked Apple to choose between prioritizing yield and increasing output.

Apple unveiled the much-anticipated iPhone Duo on September 9. It features a 5.4-inch outer display when closed, opening up to a 7.6-inch inner display. It is powered by the new A20 Pro, the same chip that powers the new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.

Pre-orders of the iPhone Duo begin Friday, October 16, with availability beginning Friday, October 23.
