Is Apple Integrating The Mac App Store Into iTunes?

Neowin speculates that Apple may be integrating the Mac App Store closely into iTunes.  Their reasoning for the matter is that iTunes has been expanding and adding additional content ever since it was launched.  First it was music, then podcasts, then videos, and now iPhone/iPad apps.

In addition, an Italian blog, Slide To Mac, has an image which appears to show the classic App Store logo with the words “Coming Soon” below it within iTunes.  My take on the matter is that such images are very easily Photoshopped (and this one probably is), and that integrating the Mac App Store into iTunes would make very little sense indeed.  Here’s why:

iTunes has become Apple’s unified standard for use with iDevices.  The idea here is simple: People can sync their iPod or iPhone with their Windows PC or Mac.  When a Windows user switches over to the Mac, the experience should be made as fluid and painless as possible, hence a matching interface between the Windows and Mac OS versions of iTunes.  Adding the Mac App Store would only fragment the user experience, leading to a confused and frustrated user.

But that’s just my take.  As always, we encourage you to read the original article, and then sound off in our comments with your thoughts.
