Sprint May Be Getting The iPhone

According to a find by MacRumors, Apple has a job opening for a Carrier Engineering team member in the Kansas City Missouri area – the very place where Sprint is based out of.

Location Kansas City, MO

Member of the Carrier Engineering team that supports taking products through technical approval at the carriers. A Carrier Engineer team is responsible for day-to-day technical interactions with the one or more carriers to track down issues reported by the carrier, assist the carrier with testing they might be conducting and working with program management, software development and test teams to get products approved by the carriers.

Again, what’s interesting is that Sprint, of course, is based in the Kansas City (Kansas) suburb of Overland Park. Further, analysts have recently reported that Apple would be rolling out the iPhone to both Sprint and T-Mobile later this year.

This is more interesting than merely adding carriers, however – AT&T & Verizon already have the iPhone, and there are only 4 major cell carriers in the US, T-Mobile and Sprint both being among them… The significance of that reaches further than the iPhone merely becoming available on Sprint and T-Mobile – it may mark the iPhone being released (at least in the US) as a truly unlocked phone, usable with even the smaller carriers.
