Touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro and OLED iPad mini to Debut on October 27

Apple will launch its new OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro models and an ‌OLED‌ iPad mini “on or around” Tuesday, October 27, reports Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The date will also see the launch of an M6 14-inch ‌MacBook Pro‌ and an M6 iMac.

The October 27 unveiling will come close on the heels of Apple’s October 13 debut of Apple’s new smart home hub, and updated models of the Apple TV 4K set-top box and the HomePod mini.

Bloomberg says both the October 13 and October 27 product launches will include “an online video presentation” as well as a hands-on experience for members of the media.

Apple has reportedly been working on an ‌OLED‌ MacBook for several years now, and while some rumors indicated it could be named the MacBook Ultra, Gurman says the 14-inch and 16-inch notebooks will be a part of the ‌MacBook Pro‌ family. The devices are said to be both thinner and lighter than the current ‌MacBook Pro‌ models and they will boast touchscree ‌OLED‌ displays, with a Dynamic Island.

The new iPad mini‌ will sport a landscape camera for video calls, a redesigned speaker system, and a new ‌OLED‌ display. In September, leaked code indicated Apple’s next-generation iPad mini with be powered by the A20 Pro chip.

In July, Gurman said a new iPad mini model sporting an OLED display would be released by October of this year. OLED display panels provide better image quality compared to LCD displays. OLED displays provide more vivid colors, higher contrast ratio, and wider viewing angles, and in many cases can be more power efficient. Since OLED panels individually control each pixel, resulting in more precise color reproduction and deeper blacks compared to LCD.
