Asymco analyst Horace Dediu has noticed a very shocking yet fascinating statistic – Apple sold more iOS devices in 2011 (156 million) than they’ve sold Macs in their entire history (122 million)!

It’s a remarkable statistic, and highlights the immense popularity of Apple’s iOS devices. Apple has sold 316 million devices total (as of the end of 2011), which is more than double the number of Macs ever sold!

That’s not to say that the Mac isn’t still popular. It is. And that popularity is only rising. But an ever increasing number of people are carrying iPhones in the pockets and stowing iPads on their bedside tables as well.

To date, Apple has sold 316 million iOS devices total, across the three iOS product lines.
