According to sources speaking to iMore‘s Rene Ritchie, Apple is planning to hold their highly anticipated iPad 3 announcement on Wednesday, March 7th. The device will reportedly feature a Retina display and a quad-core processor, as well as possible LTE support.

According to sources who have been reliable in the past, Apple currently plans to hold theiriPad 3 announcement on Wednesday, March 7, 2012. Along with the 2048×1536 Retina display, the iPad 3 will feature a quad-core Apple 6 system-on-a-chip, and possibly 4G LTE networking.
This date lines up well with AllThingsD‘s recent report, and claims of a quad-core processor line up well with multiple credible reports, as well as with code discovered in iOS 5.1 beta.
iMore is traditionally a very reliable source of such information, having correctly predicted the launch date and information on the features of the iPhone 4S.
* Update: The Loop’s Jim Dalrymple, well-known for being informed of the goings-on at Apple, has confirmed that the iPad 3 event will be held on March 7th, offering a simple “Yep” in response. Once Dalrymple speaks out on an Apple event, it may as well be confirmed.
