Apple Testing New ‘Guided Tour’ Feature for its Online Store

After the Apple Store went down for several hours late last night, many thought the only change that Apple made was a new “We’ll be back” page. According to Brazilian site MacMagazine, however (via MacRumors), Apple apparently used the site’s downtime to make a couple of interesting changes.

The first change was a change to the sales chat window, which has gotten a facelift to reflect Apple’s more modern design elements. The second change, however, is far more interesting: Apple appears to be testing a new screen-sharing “guided tour” feature for its online store.

The new feature is only found on the Brazilian Apple Store, and only on the iPad 2 page of that store, suggesting that Apple may be testing the option and rolling it out more broadly in the near future.

The ability for an Apple representative to share their screen and help you pick a product by pointing out specific details seems like a fantastic feature. I know it would have helped me significantly when I was shopping for my first Mac!
