UK Judge: Galaxy Tab ‘Not as Cool’ as iPad, Doesn’t Infringe Apple’s Designs

UK Judge: Galaxy Tab ‘Not as Cool’ as iPad, Doesn’t Infringe Apple’s Designs

In an apparent blow to Apple in its ongoing patent dispute with Samsung, U.K. judge Colin Birss ruled this morning that the Samsung Galaxy Tab dies not infringe on Apple’s iPad – but the reason why should cause Tim Cook to grin: The Galaxy Tab just isn’t “cool” enough!

Bloomberg reports, directly quoting Judge Birss:

[The Galaxy tablets] “do not have the same understated and extreme simplicity which is possessed by the Apple design,” Birss said. “They are not as cool.”

The judge referenced the iPad’s “understated and extreme simplicity,” while also noting that Samsung’s products just aren’t as distinctive as Apple’s iPad, and that consumers are very unlikely to confuse the two competing tablets from one another.

The ruling follows injunctions granted to Apple against the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the Galaxy Nexus in the U.S. Neither Apple has yet provided a statement on the ruling – but even though this is a loss for Apple, it should definitely serve as a slam to Samsung as well.
