You’ve got your new iPhone 5 pre-ordered, and like any good consumer, you know you’re already planning on how you can trick that puppy out! Some of you are looking to protect your new jewel, or you’re just wanting to customize it so it’ll stand out in the crowd. Well, we’re here to help.

And for those of you that like to use your iPhone naked, well, that’s your choice, it’s a free country, but at least put some pants on while you’re reading this article, OK?

Rugged Cases

You can’t do a story on iPhone cases without including the Otterbox lineup.

Otterbox is THE standard for rugged cases, and has been ever since the original iPhone was released back in 2007. For the iPhone 5, the company is letting out all the stops, with cases that run the gamut from sleek and sexy, to ultra-rugged. Let’s take a look.

Defender: Otterbox’s most rugged and protective option, the Defender comes with a built-in screen protector, and provides three layers of protection for your shiny new device. The included belt holster also doubles as a viewing stand. It’s available in eight color combinations.
The Defender is available now at Amazon for $49.95.

Commuter: The Commuter case offers two layers of protection with an adhesive screen protector. It offers great protection in a slimmer form factor. It’s available in seven colors and is available for backorder at Amazon for $34.95.

Slim and Sexy Cases

If your tastes run to cases that are as ornate as they are protective, there are plenty of options available for you.

The iLuv Pulse Case will protect your iPhone 5 while still allowing it to look sleek and sexy. This case features two different layers to create an contrast of colors and textures. The first layer covers the sides and back of your new iPhone 5 while still allowing access to all of the ports and controls. The second layer consists of raised, shock-absorbing ridges that interlock with the first layer to provide extra protection.
The iLuv Pulse is available now at Amazon for $34.83.

Belkin’s View Case/Cover offers excellent protection while maintaining a fashionable look. It has a transparent design with a see-through polycarbonate back and a colorful border. It’s available in Clear/Blacktop, Clear/Day Glo, Clear/Fresh, Clear/Volta, Clear/Whiteout, and Clear/Violet color combinations.
The View Case/Cover is available at Amazon for $19.99.

An Eclectic Case

The Grove Case is a case that will appeal to users who want to wrap their new baby in something off-beat yet still protective. The Grove has a plant fiber composite core which is then fused to a solid bamboo exterior. The case is made of 100% post-consumer fibers and renewable bamboo, so it is fresh and sustainable. The case can be customized to your liking by having it custom engraved. This is a very unusual case, and has really caught my eye. I’ll be checking this one out. The case is available for $59, if you pre-order before September 30. It’s available for pre-order now at Grove’s website.

For The Active User

The Belkin EaseFit Plus Armband wraps snugly around your arm. The Ease-Fit Armband Plus fits arms measuring anywhere from 12.6 to 15.8 inches and has a form-fitting design to stay comfortably in place. Its a neoprene and Lycra blend so it’s lightweight, flexible, and water resistant.

The armband also includes a pouch that can hold your key. It’s available in either Blacktop or Day Glo. The EaseFit is available for pre-order from Amazon for $29.99.

These are just a few options from the flood of cases being released for the iPhone 5. We’re keeping track of all the press releases and we’ll be sharing some more cases and accessories as they catch our eye.

You should include Lifeproof when they come out with the iPhone 5 case.

The Grove case looks like it’ll be my next one. I love the look and prefer a minimal case to anything bulky like the Otterbox.
