iPad 3 To Feature 3D Screen?

According to MacRumors, multiple sources who seem knowledgeable about the iPad 3 are claiming that it will boast a 3D display, with one Hollywood insider saying the device is already in planning, and the “fact that the iPad 3 is 3D is a dead certainty.”

RCR reveals that the story has also been backed up by a source at Foxconn – the factory that manufactures Apple’s devices – who have “spilled the 3D iPad beans” to several of their closest industry sources.

While its difficult to determine how reliable these sources might be, it’s hard to imagine that Apple isn’t aware of its popularity, and working on a solution. The remaining questions is what a 3D iPad might be like.

One thing is clear. Apple won’t simple “do 3D,” just like Apple doesn’t simply “do” anything. Their approach will be glasses free, aesthetically pleasing, will not cause headaches (as some 3D systems can), and will be expertly implemented.

Some of Apple’s research has been into devices that achieve 3D effects with the use of head tracking. A separate rumor earlier this year from Japanese blog Macotakara cited sources who claimed that Apple’s LCD supplier was working on a small 3D display panel for the iPod touch, which would use head tracking to provide 3D without glasses.

Apple’s touch devices already present incredible competition to the market for tablets and handheld consoles, their platforms are becoming more and more popular and important to gamers, so it’s really the natural move.
