iSense Concept Makes iPad Accessible For Blind Users – Adds Braille

This is a truly amazing concept. The iSense is a cover that when placed on an iPad screen transforms text and apps into braille – allowing the blind to use an iPad.

iSenseThe iSense is made out of a light responsive material that contains molecules which transform into braille when exposed to the light from the screen. The iPad would automatically switch to braille when the iSense cover is placed upon the iPad’s screen.

The iSense is a submission in the Future Lions competition. It’s not clear at what stage iSense is at. Is it just a concept or can / will it be developed?

The description posted on the iSense video hosted on Vimeo doesn’t provide us with much more information.

This iSense commercial is our contribution to the Future Lions Competition 2011. The iSense product is NOT real and IS NOT available for purchase. Furthermore – Apple® Inc. and the iPad™ is NOT in any way involved with this product or commercial.

We have contacted a representative from iSense for a quote. But even if it isn’t possible to read braille in this manner, it does provide food for thought about making the iPad an accessible device for the blind.
