Apple Preparing To Launch Insane 16-Core Mac Pro In July?

While rumors of a Mac Pro refresh have been floating around (with recent rumors suggesting a July or August release), a new report suggests that updated models could feature up to a 16-core processor – a first for the Mac Pro – resulting in a machine that’s not just powerful, but insanely powerful.

The report suggests that Apple has referenced a mid-2011 Mac Pro in a number of internal documents. This model is, of course, not yet released (the last refresh was seen in July 2010). The documents also reportedly suggest 4 new models of the Mac Pro – a 6-core, 8-core, 12-core, and incredible, 16-core Mac Pro.

It’s possible that this new 16-core processor could be the custom Intel processor that was rumored earlier this week, although we have no confirmation is the case. If this information is correct, professional Mac power-users are about to become very, very happy.

Previous rumors, which are as yet still unconfirmed, have suggested that a new rack-mountable Mac Pro might be on the was as well, which could become either a standard or an option for the supposed new 2011 models.

Any Mac Pro users out there excited about this? Sound off in the comments!
