Rumor: Twitter to be Integrated into iOS 5

Apple pundit MG Siegler is reporting that iOS 5 may be getting system-level Twitter integration.

Along with the forthcoming in-house photo uploading service TechCrunch reported on, Twitter may be working with Apple to integrate into iOS 5 much the same way YouTube and MobileMe are available when sharing photos and video.

We’ve heard from multiple sources that Twitter is likely to have a big-time partner for such a service: Apple. Specifically, we’re hearing that Apple’s new iOS 5 will come with an option to share images to Twitter baked into the OS.

This has huge implications for Twitter which could see a massive explosion in growth given the iOS installed base is over 160 million devices. This integration could also be a big win for consumers as a replacement for insanely expensive unlimited text messaging plans. Here’s hoping this rumor is true. We shall see next Monday.

James first bit into Apple when his mom and dad bought an Apple IIe in 1986. He switched to Wintel in the mid 90s when Apple was in a tailspin and back again to an iBook in 2005 when things were looking brighter. Hopefully there is no turning back to the dark side now.
