“Apple Store” App To Be Replaced With Advanced HTML5 Web App

It appears as though Apple will soon be phasing out their official Apple Store app, and will be developing an advanced web app using HTML5 to take its place. The Apple Store app hasn’t been particularly useful in the past, featuring many limitations, such as the inability to easily access the education store, government store, and other discounted sections. It’s also notable that Apple has so far failed to optimize the app for the iPad.

According to 9to5Mac, however, that may be about to change, as they report that Apple is developing an iOS-optimized web app to serve this function, and will soon be doing away with the official App Store app.

This actually seems like a much better approach at letting people shop from their iOS devices, and its likely that Apple will even find a way to enable check-in functionalities so you can let an Apple Genius know when you’ve arrived at the Apple Store, or signal an employee for assistance, as the current app does.

The new redesigned mobile web app is expected to debut some time in 2012.
