AT&T has confirmed that, as previously planned, they’ll begin increasing the price for insurance covering iPhones and other smartphones on October 4th, the same day as Apple’s iPhone media event.

The insurance rate for devices in the iPhone’s new tier will increase from $4.99 per month to $6.99 per month, and a $199 non-refundable deductible will be charged any time a claim is made. The timing of the increase is curious, and might indicate that AT&T expects Apple to launch the next-gen iPhone earlier than expected. You can read more about it on AT&T’s mobile insurance page.
