LG Fixes iPad 2 Display Issues – Production & Shipments Return To Normal

According to DigiTimes, LG have returned to normality with respect to iPad 2 Display panel shipments. It was reported that “light leak” issues with the iPad 2s display had caused shipments to reduce by approximately 1.5 million units per month.

In July, LG shipped approximately 2.5 to 2.6 million units and they are now expected to consistently ship 4 million units per month from now on.

Because of the display panel issues, Apple sourced LCD display panels from rivals such as Samsung and CMI respectively. In July, Samsung shipped approximately 2 million LCD displays for the iPad 2 while CMI shipped approximately 500,000 units.

In recent weeks the shipping times for iPad 2s sold from Apple.com have reduced from 1-2 weeks, to 3-5 days, to the more comforting “in stock”.

It is expected that Apple will receive approximately 15 million iPad 2 units to be sold through Apple.com and via Apple Stores during the third quarter of 2011.
