The “Good Old Days”: Apple, HP & Packard Bell Computers Back In 1996

Holy time travel, Batman! This old Best Buy magazine flier from 1996 compares sale prices and system specs for the Multimedia Computers of the day from HP, Packard Bell and Apple. $2399 for a 180MHz PowerPC Mac? Yikes – and that’s without a monitor!

It’s pretty astounding to compare this ad to data from today – Packard Bell is long gone, HP is swiftly on its way out, and new iMacs can now be purchased for just $1,199, with a really nice built-in monitor and a set of specs that’d make this old PPC Mac sob like a child. Hat tip to CultofMac for sharing.
