Apple Launches iTunes Tone Store For Message & Alert Tones

Apple has just launched a new store within iTunes called the Tone Store. The new store is specifically for alert tones, text message tones & ringtones, and includes tons of sounds or dialog clips from movies such as Star Wars and Jaws.

From Apple:

The iTunes Store on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch now includes the Tone Store — an incredible spectrum of music ringtones and alert tones that can be assigned to any alert setting on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

The clip currently topping the charts in the new store is an RD-D2 beeping clip, but there are plenty of popular clips to choose from. The new Tone Store so far can only be accessed from an iOS device. To get to the new Tone Store, head to settings > sounds, select any of the tone options, and then click “Buy More Tones” at the top of the screen.

Ringtones cost $1.29 through the Tone Store, and alert tones cost $0.99. Alert tones and SMS tones are brand new offerings for Apple, and I’m excited to see the change! I get tired of the same old tones. Hopefully someone will find a way for people to generate their own tones as well.
