How To: AirPlay Mirroring On AppleTV

AirPlay mirroring is the ability for users of iOS 5 to display everything on their screens to a large HDTV wirelessly via an AppleTV.

In order to do this you will need to have all devices updated to the latest version of the operating system.

On the AppleTV you will need to proceed to Settings > Airplay. When the following screen displays make sure that AirPlay is turned on. If not simply highlight and click the centre button on your remote. You can also set a password for AirPlay if you wish. This will prevent unauthorised devices from showing content via the AppleTV.

On the iPhone 4S simply double tap the home button and then swipe the bottom multitask bar from left to right twice and you will be presented with the AirPlay button. Tap the AirPlay button and select AppleTV then turn on mirroring. The iPhone 4 running iOS 5 doesn’t do mirroring to the AppleTV but will perform other AirPlay functions from certain apps.

The iPad works the same way as the iPhone 4S but only a single swipe from left to right is required to reach the AirPlay button as shown below:

As you can see from the image above when you tap the AirPlay button you will be presented with the AirPlay options. Simply tap AppleTV and turn mirroring on. Once done your entire display will be mirrored on your HDTV.

When you are ready to stop the mirroring simply follow these steps in reverse order.
