New Strike at Shanghai Factory, Supplier to HP and Motorola

New Strike at Shanghai Factory, Supplier to HP and Motorola

Following the recent strike at Apple’s keyboard factory, workers at a Shanghai factory that supplies large tech companies such as Motorola and HP have now taken action, Associated Press reports.

Hundreds of laid-off staff gathered outside the Hi-P International factory, seeking improved information and personal terms. Some of the conditions are pretty shocking.

“Sometimes, they ask us to work 18 or 19 hours in a day. Sometimes the overtime is even longer than a normal 8-hour work day,”

The protest was overlooked by police, but there was no intervention. Hi-P have factories in five other Chinese cities, including Suzhou.

There has been a steady increase in the number of protests at factories, and this will no doubt mean that large tech companies, Apple included, will be feeling the squeeze in terms of production.
