Virgin Airlines Names Jet in Honor of Steve Jobs

Virgin America has named one of their fleet jets in honor of late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, displaying one of his well-known quotes, “Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish,” on the side of the Airbus A320 craft.

Originally used in the final issue of The Whole Earth Catalogue in the 1970’s, Jobs mentioned the phrase as part of his 2005 commencement address delivered at Stanford University:

On the back cover of their final issue was a photograph of an early morning country road, the kind you might find yourself hitchhiking on if you were so adventurous. Beneath it were the words: “Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.” It was their farewell message as they signed off. Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish. And I have always wished that for myself. And now, as you graduate to begin anew, I wish that for you.

MacRumors spoke with a Virgin America representative, who explained that the statement was selected following an internal plane naming competition within their organization. The plane first took flight sometime last fall.
