iPad 2 Being Deleted From Best Buy Inventory Ahead of iPad 3 Launch

Following their offer of a $50 discount on all iPad 2 models, Best Buy is now reportedly removing the iPad 2 from their inventory system ahead of Apple’s highly anticipated announcement of the iPad 3.

Engadget reports:

The big box retailer has already reduced iPad 2 prices by a cool $50, apparently to make way for the big number 3, and now we’ve gotten a note from a blue shirted tipster, saddling the slate (known here as the MCQSULL/A W) with a “Deleted” status. What you’re looking at is the entry for the white 32GB model, but we’re told other models have been similarly flagged.

It’s far from an official conformation from Best Buy, but the removal of previous gen models from store shelves has been a pretty strong indicator in the past that new models are coming, and soon.

The iPad 3 is expected to be announced at an Apple media event on March 7th, and is expected to feature a faster processor and a high resolution Retina display.
