iPad 3 Logic Board Photo Shows ‘A5X’ Chip, Suggests iPad 3 May Not Be Quad-Core

iPad 3 Logic Board Photo Shows ‘A5X’ Chip, Suggests iPad 3 May Not Be Quad-Core

A claimed image of a prototype iPad 3 logic board has surfaced, picturing an “A5X” processor rather than the quad-core “A6” processor previously rumored for the device, reports MacRumors. An A5X processor would represent an enhanced version of the iPad 2’s current processor rather than an all-new quad-core processor for Apple’s next-gen tablet.

The image was posted on the WeiPhone forums, and backs up previous rumors that the iPad 3 may only have a dual-core chip with improved graphics. Considering that the photo was taken in November, however, it’s quite possible that this was just a production prototype of the iPad 3, and may not represent the final version that Apple is expected to announce on March 7th.
