iPhone Makes Up 75% of all Mobile Phone Profits

Asymco analyst Horace Dediu has released new data on mobile phone profits, revealing that the iPhone accounts for a whopping 75% of mobile phone profits, while the iPhone’s market growth continues to outpace Android. That’s great news for Apple, but I wouldn’t want to be their competition right now.

The iPhone’s market share (in terms of units shipped) has increased from 3% at the end of last June to 8.7 percent at the end of 2011, and a profit share surge from 39% to 75% in the same time period.

Among the top 8 smart phone makers, Samsung comes closes to Apple with a 16% market share, while Nokia, RIM, and HTC are struggling just to stay afloat. Also noted in the reports is that the iPhone continues to grow at a much faster rate than their competitors, including Android.

This data reflects mobile phone sales as a whole rather than just smartphones, and the numbers reflect the worldwide market rather than just the United States. Looks like there are some dark day’s ahead for Apple’s competitors…
