Following last month’s release of OnLive Desktop, a service that allows you to run desktop Microsoft Office apps from the cloud, the company has now launched a new “Desktop Plus” premium subscription service, which provides a number of additional features, such as access to a Flash and PDF enabled web browser (with a lightning fast 1-gigabit connection).
In addition to an ultra-fast accelerated web browsing experience (and Flash support!), the $5 per month premium subscription also includes full access to Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel. and PowerPoint, as well as 2GB of cloud storage.
The free OnLive Desktop App, currently available on iPad—and coming soon to Android, PC, Mac, TVs and monitors—delivers no-compromise, media-rich, instant-response Windows applications including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint software, and as of today, Adobe Reader for PDFs, along with 2GB of cloud storage. Unfortunately, there is a bit of lag involved with using rich media content – similar to the lag you might see if using OnLive’s gaming service through a slow or high-latency connection. This can make it frustrating to use many Flash-based web apps.
