Elgato Releases Thunderbolt SSD

After featuring at CES earlier this year, Elgato has released the first portable Thunderbolt SSD to the market. It is available in 120GB or 240GB configurations and will feature transfer speeds of, wait for it, 270 Mb/s!

That’s pretty amazing, especially considering that Firewire 800 is about 80 Mb/s and USB 2.0 is about 35 Mb/s. That makes Thunderbolt 3.4 times faster than Firewire 800 and 7.7 times faster than USB 2.0.

We’ve done the good part, the price is when it gets bad and ugly. These things start at $429 for the 120GB and it will cost you $700 for the 240GB. Way too expensive if you ask me, even though the speeds are pretty incredible.
