An Inside Look at the ‘Mind-Blowing’ New iOS 6 Maps App (Screenshots)

Following reports from earlier this month that iOS 6 will feature a “mind-blowing” new Maps app, BGR has received leaked screenshots of the app from a “trusted source,” and has produced a composite mockup of what the final app will look like.

…the app features a refreshed user interface including a brand new navigation bar. This bar, we’re told, is silver instead of blue. […]

The iPhone version of Maps has a floating locate me button [… ]in the bottom left corner. To access 3D mode, which will make use of Apple’s C3 Technologies acquisition, you have to peel back the lower right corner of Maps just like the current version and enable 3D mode. Once enabled, you can switch in and out of 3D mode by tapping a 3D icon in the lower left corner. A photo of this feature can be seen in our gallery.

While BGR’s screenshots are a bit fuzzy and unclear, they do reveal some interesting tidbits, such as a 3D button. Their composite screenshot, compiled from the screenshots, as well as information they have received about the app, however, is far more interesting.

According to the report, Apple is putting the finishing touches on the app, which means Apple may be preparing to show it off at WWDC, or may include it in the first developer betas of iOS 6. Either way, we’re excited to see it in person once Apple makes it available! The full set of screenshots can be found below (click to expand).
