Apple HDTV to Feature Siri and Face-Tracking Camera, Look Like an Oversized Cinema Display?

In yet another rumor from an anonymous source about Apple’s upcoming television, CultofMac claims to have received information from a source who has actually seen a prototype of Apple’s rumored HDTV, claiming to provide insider information about the device.

From CultofMac:

According to our source, who has asked to remain strictly anonymous, the Apple HDTV looks like Apple’s current lineup of LED-backlit Cinema Displays but is “much bigger.” It has a built-in iSight camera for making free FaceTime video conference calls. And it has Siri, the iPhone 4S’s voice-activated virtual assistant.

The report claims that Apple’s upcoming television will resemble Apple’s current Cinema and Thunderbolt Displays (as illustrated in the above concept), and will feature Siri and a face-tracking iSight camera with intelligent zoom for FaceTime calls. The face-tracking is reportedly intended to address the fact that users sit further away from a television than they do from a computer display.

Previous rumors have suggested that Apple is already working with component suppliers for the new set, and rumored release dates have ranged everywhere from later this year to sometime in 2014.

It’s worth taking rumors like this skeptically. Yet another rumor with an anonymous source and no accompanying evidence, and making claims that have either already been made before, or are little more than fairly obvious guesses is hardly worth betting the farm on.
