Now that the new iPad has been given 4G capabilities, many iPhone users want faster mobile data as well. Considering that Apple has yet to release a 4G-capable iPhone, a new startup called FreedomPop has stepped up to provide the next best thing: A $99 iPhone case with a built-in 4G WiFi HotSpot!
FreedomPop didn’t stop at just creating the ultimate wireless hotspot for iPhone users however – they’ve also built in a battery pack to boost your iPhone’s runtime, and have even sweetened the deal by offering 500MB of free data usage each month! That seems like a pretty good deal!
As GigaOM points out, the company also claims they’ll provide a way for customers to increase the size of their data pool to 1GB, and users who go over their limit will be charged $0.01 per megabyte. That’s just $10 per gig = comparable to what AT&T charges for their data in the US!
One possible catch here is that FreedomPop’s case will use Clearwire’s WiMAX network, which is limited to a mere 72 markets – but if you live in one of those areas (which you can find out at Clearwire’s site), you’re in luck!
The Freedom Sleeve for iPhone is yet to launch, but pre-orders are available now for $99, and those who pre-order units should receive their case sometime in June. For more info, or to purchase, head on over to FreedomPop’s website!
