New iPad Already Jailbroken (Untethered) on iOS 5.1.1

New iPad Already Jailbroken (Untethered) on iOS 5.1.1

Well-known iOS hacker i0n1c has once again demonstrated his skills by jailbreaking the 3rd generation iPad running iOS 5.1.1 shortly after the update was released. i0n1c also demonstrated a jailbreak of the new iPad just hours after the device hit the shelves in the U.S.

Considering that i0n1c’s original jailbreak for the new iPad was untethered, it’s very likely that the 5.1.1 jailbreak is untethered as well. While no jailbreak for the iPad 3 has yet been released, the fact that the device can be jailbroken so quickly, even after an iOS update, suggests that we may see a public tool released in the near future.

In addition to i0n1c’s work, pod2g and others are also known to be working on an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 and the 3rd-gen iPad, although his progress appears to be much less rapid than that of i0n1c.

As always, we’ll keep you updated as soon as we hear more!
