The Latest iMac Clones Are New Dells

Attack of the Clones isn’t just the title of the second Star Wars film. It’s also what’s happening in the technology industry. The latest company to ‘get inspired’ by Apple is Dell, which has launched three new all-in-one PCs, the XPS One 27, and the Inspiron One 23 and 20, PCWorld reports.

The XPS One 27 (above) features a 27 inch WLED display, a Core i5 or i7 Ivy Bridge processor, 4GB of RAM, a 1TB hard drive and of course Windows 7. Priced at $1,400, it’s definitely worth it for a design you won’t find anywhere else.

Also with a completely original and groundbreaking design, the Inspiron One (above) comes in 23 inches or 20 inches and has a i3, i5 or i7 processor with 2GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive. The Inspiron One 23 and 20 will be priced at $750 and $530 respectively. All will be available online in Dell’s U.S store in the next few weeks.

What I find most amazing is that the companies who make products like this don’t even acknowledge the product they got the idea from. If you’re going to rip Apple off, at least do it with some dignity.

Im sorry, what drugs are you on?

That looks nothing like an iMac, just to add it actually uses real i5s and i7s the ones in the iMacs are custom built and low powered. In fact they released one in 2008 and soon after apple copied the style, even look it up.

Also there are only a limited number of practical form factors for computers. There is bound to be overlapping.

    2. Irma says:

I agree about the not copying, but not about the iMac using non-standard processors.

But ripping off designs from Apple are what all the cool kids are doing these days (and for the last 30 years), so why shouldn’t Dell get in on the action too :-).

    1. Irma says:

There’s a wonderful quote that Steve Jobs liked to repeat about taking ideas from others.

No-one’s really making direct copies here anyway, regardless of Apple drones whining to the contrary. I mean really, get an understanding of how humans inspire each other and that no-one is coming up with anything in total isolation, not even the great and glorious god Apple.

And yes I do use a Mac.

  5. JMS says:

If I were Apple, I would not swear this one. Dell may attempt to look like a Mac, but it’s still going to fall apart like every other Dell product I mistakenly bought. Worst yet, the product has the telephone support of rude and obnoxious technicians. It’s no wonder this company is desperate to copy!

2 gig of ram is still on new computers? That’s barely enough to do Internet browsing in Win7. In an All-In-One, I expect power.

  7. Merly López says:

they try to make it look like an iMac but it’s not enough… my 3 year old iMac looks a lot better than that!
