TSA, the agency in charge of airport security, are planning a $3 million spending spree on 1,000 Macs and another 1,000 Apple handheld devices as part of a secure mobile computing pilot, it has revealed (via NextGov).
The justification and approval document (pdf download) also declared that TSA was only interested in Apple products and that other manufacturers were not invited to bid.
The devices will be used for forensic investigations, security testing, iPhone app development and video and graphics production.
TSA also mentioned that Apple TVs and iPads would be piloted for training and presentations.
The pilot will use ‘several hundred’ iOS devices across the entire agency, and if it goes well, it could turn out to be a real money maker deal for Apple.
