iPhone Buyers: 73% choose the 4S, 38% Are Switching From the Android or BlackBerry

A new survey of U.S. phone buyers shows that 73 percent choose the iPhone 4S, and 38 percent of new iPhone buyers are switching from Android or Blackberry smartphones.

AppleInsider:

The latest data from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners found that the number of customers switching from Android and BlackBerry to iPhone has increased from 29 percent in the previous survey conducted in February. The new data comes from a survey conducted in April of 7,348 U.S. subjects, 521 of which qualified to respond.

Interestingly, the survey shows that the number of users switching to the iPhone is even higher than it was following the iPhone 4S launch in late 2011, when 36 percent of iPhone buyers were coming from another platform.

It seems 16GB is enough storage for the majority of buyers, as 50 percent of the iPhone 4S buyers who responded to the survey said they bought the 16GB iPhone, 34 percent chose the 32GB model, and the remaining 16 percent went for the big boy, the 64GB model.

Nearly three-quarters of U.S. iPhone buyers grab the iPhone 4S, 22 percent opt for the iPhone 4, which goes for $99 with a new two-year service contract. The free-with-contract 3GS model represented just 5 percent of sales.

In the February – April time frame there were slight shifts in carrier customer shares, as AT&T dropped slightly from 53 percent down to 51 percent, Sprint has a slight dip from 13 percent to 12 percent. Verizon picked up the pieces, as they increased from 34 percent to 37 percent of iPhone activations.
