T-Mobile to Offer iPhone-Compatible ‘4G’ Service for WWDC Attendees

While T-Mobile currently doesn’t offer Apple’s iPhone to their subscribers (a fact they’re none too happy about), the carrier is currently planning to update their entire network with an iPhone-compatible 1,900MHz HSPA+ frequency in the coming months.

Even more interesting, T-Mobile has confirmed (via 9to5Mac) that they will be “testing” the frequency at Moscone Center in San Francisco while Apple’s World-Wide Developer Conference takes place next week.

While upgrading coverage inside the West side of the Moscone Center, T-Mobile has also deployed 4G HSPA+ service in the 1900 MHz band to test the live network on a small scale. As part of the company’s previously announced $4 billion network modernization effort, T-Mobile plans to launch 4G HSPA+ service in the 1900 MHz band in a large number of markets by the end of the year, which will make our 4G network compatible with a broader range of devices, including the iPhone.

While T-Mobile insists this is just a coincidence, the timing seems almost too convenient, suggesting that the carrier is attempting to show off their iPhone-compatible service to the exact audience they hope will eventually become their customers. That’s a pretty big “coincidence”

Could this be a sign of things to come? Will T-Mobile be able to prepare their entire network before the next iPhone is release? Sound off in the comments!
