Next-Gen iPod touch to Feature 4-Inch Display, Aluminum Shell, and A5 Chip?

Following a claim from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo that Apple is preparing to release an all-new model of the iPod touch this fall, a new report now claims to provide additional details about the next -gen iPod touch.

Japanese blog Macotakara provided the above mockup of the device, and reports:

According to asian source, new iPod touch (5th generation) will have a 4 inch LCD which is the same size with coming iPhone 5.

CPU or other spec is considered to be the same with iPhone 4S, and has different back-case design, which will be not mirror polished but buffed aluminum one And it seems to be prepared black and white color model.

If Apple does move to a taller 4-inch screen for the next iPhone, mirroring that change on the iPod touch makes a lot of sense. It’s also worth noting that both the iPod touch and the iPod nano are due for refreshes – both were given only very minor changes in their last update, and each has effectively been on the market for at least two years.

In order to justify keeping the iPod touch around (and maintaining reasonable sales numbers), Apple pretty much has to make the iPod touch much more appealing. A significant hardware update is a great start – but lower pricing would increase the value proposition as well.

Makotakara has a reasonably good track record when it comes to Apple information, although they’ve had their fair share of misses as well. Even so, if Kuo’s report is correct, Macotakara is doing little more than filling in the details…
