New Apple Barcelona Store Features a Unique Logo

The construction barriers that surround the soon-to-open Apple retail store in Barcelona have an unique company logo that was custom made to fit into the neighborhood where the store is being constructed.

AppleInsider:

The new Apple Store is set to open in Barcelona Centre’s most expensive commercial street, Passeig de Gracia. AppleInsider reader Pere sent a picture of the under-construction storefront on Monday, and noted that Apple’s latest retail creation is near Casa Batllo and Casa Mila, which are famous creations by renowned Spanish Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi.

Gaudi’s buildings were buildings were known for their use of stained glass. The multicolored Apple logo is a nod to his style. A sign at the storefront, which is still under construction, mentions that the new Apple Store will be “custom made to fit Barcelona.”

The store will be Apple’s second retail store in Barcelona. The first opened in the La Maquinista shopping district in 2010.

Apple is known for trying to match the architecture of the surrounding area with its retail stores. They set up their stores in historical buildings, while maintaining the look and feel of the original structure.

The building the new store is located in, a 32,000 square foot building near the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, dates back to the late 1800s. Apple will occupy a corner space that overlooks Catalunya Plaza. An earlier report from ifoAppleStore said that Apple has signed a 10 year lease for 27,000 square feet, including the basement and ground floor, for $5.1 million a year.
