Some Users Are Unable to Redeem Their Mountain Lion Codes on The App Store

Some recent Mac buyers who are trying to upgrade to Mountain Lion through Apple’s OS X Up-to-Date program have ran into error messages telling them their redemption code has already been used.

AppleInsider:

Users are able to receive a redemption code from Mountain Lion through Apple’s Up-to-Date program, but attempts to redeem it on the Mac App Store are met with the error: “This code has already been used. Each code may only be used once.”

There are numerous threads on the Apple Support Communities forums documenting the problems. (7 pages long at the time of this article.)

The issue seems to be world-wide, as users from the U.S., the U.K., Turkey, Australia, China and other countries are reporting their issues in the forums.

It’s not know at this time if the error message is related to the huge amount of traffic generated by users trying to download Mountain Lion, or if the codes are in fact incorrect.

Users have said they were told by Apple’s representatives that the issue should be fixed anywhere between 24 and 72 hours, while others say they were told they will be sent a new redemption code to resolve the issue.

The Mountain Lion Up-to-Date Program allows customers who bought a new Mac on June 11 or later to receive a free upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion free of charge through the Mac App Store. Requests for the upgrade must be made before August 24, 2012.
