Zorro Macsk – A Full-Size Touchscreen for Your iMac!

Zorro Macsk – A Full-Size Touchscreen for Your iMac!

With the popularity of smartphones and tablets, consumer technology is becoming increasingly focused on touch-controlled products. That’s great for handheld devices – but with notebooks and desktop computers, the ergonomics of using a touch screen don’t work very well.

So far, I have yet to see a compelling desktop touchscreen design that would actually be comfortable to use for long periods of time. Interestingly, Chinese third-party manufacturer TMDtouch isn’t letting that stand in their way, and has begin offering a new product that will add full touchscreen capabilities to any recent 21.5-inch iMac.

CultofMac reports:

The Zorro Macsk, a brand new product from TMDtouch, a Chinese based company, supposedly will allow you to add touch functionality to your 21.5-inch iMac within just 10 seconds. Instead of adding an extra layer atop the iMac’s glass, the Zorro Macsk uses infrared technology to sense touch input. This also enables the user to use input such as a stylus on the screen, since it’s not a capactive display.

Getting touch-feely with your iMac might not be a great long-term idea, ergonomically speaking, but it could be interesting to investigate just how well OS X works with a completely touch-controlled pointing environment. The device also supports all of the gestures supported by Apple’s Magic Trackpad.

The TMDtouch comes in a variety of colors, is available immediately on Amazon for $199. At that price, this is certainly not going to be for everyone – but it might be worth picking one of these up just to see how well it actually performs!
