iCloud/iMessage/App Store/FaceTime Users Are Reporting Problems

iCloud/iMessage/App Store/FaceTime Users Are Reporting Problems

There’s trouble in Apple-land, as users are reporting outages for iCloud, iMessage, the App Store, and FaceTime. Looks like if something is Apple ID related, it’s not going to work right now.

Earlier today The Verge reported iCloud mail problems:

Apple has confirmed an issue recently reported on the iCloud support forums, which is preventing users from accessing any message received prior to yesterday — Monday, July 30th. Multiple users claimed that messages synced with iCloud disappeared from their devices

Apple posted the following on its iCloud Support page:

“A small number of users may currently be unable to access older email messages. Sending and receiving new messages is unaffected. Access to older messages affected by this issue will be restored ASAP.”

iMessage is also proving troublesome as users report iMessage is failing to activate on iOS devices and Macs. I have been using iMessage to send and receive messages from both my Mac and my iPhone, so the service doesn’t seem to be completely down. I use my email address as the ID in both cases. Users who are using their phone number are reporting problems.

9to5Mac and TNW are now reporting that the App Store is experiencing difficulties, with users reporting that they aren’t able to make purchases on the App Store.  I was able to login to the App Store, but attempting to purchase an app gave me the “Cannot connect to iTunes Store” error message.

9to5Mac also reports users are saying FaceTime is down too, leading to speculation the Apple ID system is having problems.

MacTrast will keep you posted as we receive details.

Update: App Store purchasing is now working. The iCloud Support page now says:

  • iCloud: Documents in the Cloud – Users Affected: 50%

    07/31/2012 19:36 PDT

Users may experience delays in iCloud documents syncing between devices. Normal service will be restored ASAP.
