How to: Slow Down The Genie Effect In The Finder

Do you use the Genie effect? Does it reduce the window into your dock too quickly?

If you would like to slow it down, you can.

Upon pressing the yellow Minimize button found at the top of all your windows, hold the Shift key down at the same time. If you do you will notice the genie effect will significantly slow down and allow you to capture the effect as seen below:

When you want to bring the window back from the Dock in slow motion simply click the application logo in the dock, whilst holding down Shift key. The same effect will occur, but this time it will be in reverse.

If you use Scale as the minimising effect, instead of Genie, you will also be able to slow down that animation.

Other than a fancy looking feature I don’t know of any real interesting use for the genie slowdown other than screen captures. If anyone has any ideas on how this could be used for something productive please add a comment below.
